1st Annual MRA Science Fair

Science Weekly News 4/30 - 5/4

Hey there families!

WOW!!!  That’s about all I can say after our Science Fair this past week.  We held our 1st Annual MRA Senior Science Fair on Wednesday, May 2nd.  It was a hit!  It was easy to see all the hard
work and effort students put into their projects.  There’s lots of room for improvement for next year, and the students and I have already brainstormed ideas for how to make our 2nd Annual Fair even better.  If there are any parents or community members who have ideas, please pass them along as I welcome that feedback as invaluable.

Now for the thank you list:  Parents and community, thank you for coming out and giving us an even bigger audience!  Your support is always appreciated and greatly needed.  MRA Teachers and Staff, thank you for letting your students walk through our fair.  As we continue to build a ethic of excellence around independent projects I believe it is essential for all of our students to celebrate together our hard work and dedication.  Our Science Fair would not have been as much of a success, or a school wide event, without you.  Julie Walker and Christine Dublin, thanks for taking pictures for us! Molalla Pioneer, thank you for coming out to see the show and take a few interviews.  Senior team, thank you for all your help in scoring the projects!  I definitely couldn’t have done it alone!

Last, but most importantly, students … thank you for your hard work, your energy, your enthusiasm.  Thank you to those who gave their best effort, worked their hardest, and produced a fantastic product in the process.  You’re the stars of this school and this past week, you all came out shining!

Below is a lovely slid show of some of the pictures taken at the fair.  Parents, if you took pictures during the show and feel so inclined, send them my way.

It was so fun, but also stressful. I'm so glad we were the first ones who did it because next year we can make our projects even better. Thanks! :-)

I worked so hard on the science fair project. It was so fun and rewarding. Learning about something that I have so much interest in was amazing to me, even though if I did do it again I'd change a lot of things and I'd change how I managed my time. I still thought it was a lot of fun. I also thought everyone else who did a project did absolutely amazing. I liked how all the parents and youngers came. It was so much fun. Thanks =]

I thought the Science Fair was great exept we didn't get a long enough break. Other than that it was great! I even have an idea of what to do for the Science Fair next year.

The pictures look great, Mrs. Nilsen. It was fun but I felt like we were treated younger then we really are. Yet to be in the 8th grade project and the science fair at the same time is so cool. I'm happy to be at this school.

First off, thank you to Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Dublin for taking pictures (as mentioned in the blog post) and letting Mrs. Nilsen use them on her blog. Thank you to the parents that came and listened to the speeches and projects. The projects were amazing! I only had five minutes to see a couple projects and I wanted to see all of them. I loved the science fair and want to do it again!

I thought the science fair went well. The only thing I would change is the amount of space we had. On the other hand it was fun and I'm sure we all learned a lot. Thank you for the great opportunity. I can't wait till next year.

Yes, it's over!!! I think I could have gotten an better score but now I need to worry about the next project. I'm in an group with Ben, Jessa, Hannah, and I. Brains.

Science fair was a lot of fun! I thought I was going to freeze when people came over, but the first person who came over was Taylor's grandma so I didn't feel at all nervous! Good job everyone! Just one suggestion for next year: have the time be about three months instead of a month and a half. I learned soooooooo much on breast cancer. Now I know what my mom is going through!

I thought that the actual science fair was pretty fun. Preparing for it though, was a disaster. It was very stressful as the due dates came and went, but somehow I got it all done. Next year I want to plan out my time better.

This science fair was really fun! I thought that it was really hard and stressful, but I would like to thank you, Mrs.Nilsen, for helping me a lot with my project! The good part is I learned a ton from this, and I will be more prepared next year! =)

The Science Fair was fun. I hope I can do it again. I just wish I could have finished my poster board in time. A lot of the projects were unique and cool. Some of the best were Evan's project on memory, Brandon's solar system, Marcus and the computer he made, Tristian's citrus powered battery, and Max's wood generator research. Can't wait to do it again!

I think the Sciene Fair went very well for the first one. I worked very hard on my science fair project, not to mention it was super gross! My project was The Corrosive Effects of Sodas/Energy Drinks. I used human teeth, that's why it was so gross. I enjoyed seeing other science project too. There was so many people! What was great to know is that everyone learned something new that day.

The science fair wasn't that fun. It wasn't fun for me because I did a lot of standing and that hurt my knees. Also because I don't like giving speeches, multiple times. One thing that was good was that I got to leave early for track.

I learned a lot from the Science Fair. I liked all the projects and some of the best were Hunter Dublin's on Chicks Changing Color, Jack's on Volcanoes, and Brandon's on the Solar System.

The science fair was fun, I thought it was interesting to see what ever ones project was about, some were about magnets, volcanoes, solar systems, and animals.
