Lit Circles and "Published Writing"

Weekly ELA News 1/21 - 1/25
We've been working hard to get writing back into our daily habits. I'm glad to have students in class every day again and be getting back to normal ELA times. Students did a self-grade of their notebooks for this week. I recorded their grades and their comments in Engrade together. It was interesting to see how they all took responsibility for the work they had done (or hadn't done). I was proud that they were willing to step up and claim their work. Now just to get them as excited about writing as I am!
Every so often, we do formal writing outside of our notebooks. We started one of those assignments this week as well. Students can choose what to write their story about whatever they choose. Our lessons lately have focused on the trait of "Organization." I want students to score well in "Ideas and content" (we covered that last term) and "Organization." I'm tracking their other scores (see the rubric they have for the assignment), but those are the scores I care most about this time around. We will keep building on our skills as we move forward.
We are beginning our new reading unit this coming Monday! You'll get to hear all about Lit Circles 6th grade style this coming week I'm sure! If not from your student, from me next weekend. I'm super pumped! We've got some EXCELLENT books lined up. Oh boy, oh boy! They have no idea how awesome this next reading journey will be.
