Wrapping up Wrinkle

Weekly ELA News 12/3 - 12/7
It's been quite a ride. I've loved focusing on a novel as a whole class. It allows students who struggle to fully engage and participate. It gives advanced readers a challenge to help deepen conversation and answer questions that the group comes up with along the way.
We finished the last chapter today! It was such an exciting time as an educator to watch how engaged they were! It was silent. Their attention was fully focused on our book. It was FANTASTIC!! We'll look at dissecting the book a bit more next week, but for today, I just wanted to revel in how much they were enjoying reading. What a pleasure and a gift they gave me today.
Students began their "Story Cubes" this week - a project designed to help students show me what literary analysis elements they've learned about through the course of our novel study. While we've been raptly following Meg and the plot, we've also increased our vocabulary with ideas and terms like metaphor, mood, theme, climax, characterization, and many more! Students are to create a cube that visually and verbally shows their understanding of six elements of their choice. The project is due next Friday, December 7th. I'm so looking forward to seeing them up in our classroom!
