Weekly Homeroom News 10/22 - 10/26

Golly, I wish I had more time with my homeroom!!  I'm glad we've gone to more content through the day as that's where we should be, but there's just so much I want to do with them.  I'm squeezing in all I can!  Take a look at how busy we were this past week!

ART, ART, ART!

Now that we're into the school year a bit, we're starting some art lessons on the main elements of art.  This past Friday, we learned about line and how curved lines give shape, movement, and form where straight lines give structure.  I'll post pictures next week when students turn in their 3-D drawings (see sample on the right)!  I'm looking into nice art supplies to get for our class to further explore creative expression together.  We'll be covering the following topics in the upcoming weeks:
  • Line (the one we just did!)
  • Color
  • Shape
  • Form
  • Texture
  • Pattern
  • Value
  • And more!

Harvest Fest

I'm so sad that I missed the Harvest Fest!  I apologized to the kids on this past Monday.  I was so sick on Saturday and decided that I had to get some rest or I wouldn't be able to teach this week.  I slept all day Saturday!  A huge shout out to Mr. Oldham who manned our booth and help out kids with making slime.

If anyone has pictures from Harvest Fest, I'd love to post them.  Let me know.

Pie-Covered Teachers for Fundraising Celebrations

We had quite the assembly this past Wednesday.  Not only did the Seniors get to find out who their buddies are, but we celebrated the money raised from the Jog-a-thon!  We had our raffle of prizes, cheered on students who ran lots of laps and raised money, but the grand finale was the sacrifice of teachers and director to all things sugar and eggy.  That's right.  Students who raised over $100 got to throw a pie in the face of a teacher.  Students who raised $200 got to throw TWO pies, and so on.  AND, Mrs. Shelley got 5 dozen eggs dumped on her as we raised over $8000!!!  Way to go MRA!  I'm working on getting more pictures, but here's the one I pulled from Facebook for now.  Pie number one, in my face.  Loved it.  So did Josh B.

Fall Party! - October 29th

This coming Monday afternoon we'll have our Fall Party.  (We won't have any homeroom time on Tuesday, so we're celebrating early.)  We'll play our infamous Mafia for some deductive and inductive reasoning practice and if students want to bring snacks and drinks for that last 45 minutes of the day, I'm game.
